Learn how CubeCold Moerdijk reduces the impact of grid congestion by using a generator.
In the world of cold storage, Cube Cold Moerdijk is a symbol for innovating its energy supply. Like many other food companies, grid congestion also forced CubeCold to improve energy management. From the results of the Energy Monitoring System , it turned out that in addition to the optimizing the energy purchasing strategy and it realising a solar system, external energy sources were also required.
CubeCold Moerdijk strived for security of supply from an external energy source at an optimal price, without prejudice to legal requirements. But what options are there for this, and what considerations play a role in this?
With uncertainty about the best approach and the pressure to keep operations running, CubeCold called in Moerdijk QING to investigate external energy sources that could be used quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively. In this case, an aggregate proved to be the best temporary solution.
“With the right mix of generators and smart energy management, we have not only reduced our costs but also improved our operational efficiency. A real game changer.” Frans van Helden - CFO Cube Cold
QING calculated for CubeCold Moerdijk which external energy source it has most advantageous was to meet peak energy demand when grid capacity is insufficient and solar power is not sufficient.
While adding generators to meet peak demand works, it is not a long-term solution. By adding generators, the potential merits of a Energy Management System larger.
One Energy Management System controls the consumption of all energy assets that are connected to it. In this way, CubeCold Moerdijk gets the most out of its energy connection and always uses the cheapest available energy source. This drastically reduces energy costs. In addition, it improves mutual cooperation and communication between devices. As a result, machines, for example, are not turned on unnecessarily and do not work against each other, which could otherwise cause a peak load on the network.
