Learn how CubeCold Moerdijk reduces the impact of grid congestion by using a generator.

In the world of cold storage, Cube Cold Moerdijk is a symbol for innovating its energy supply. Like many other food companies, grid congestion also forced CubeCold to improve energy management. From the results of the Energy Monitoring System , it turned out that in addition to the optimizing the energy purchasing strategy and it realising a solar system, external energy sources were also required.

Fast, efficient and cost-effective solution

CubeCold Moerdijk strived for security of supply from an external energy source at an optimal price, without prejudice to legal requirements. But what options are there for this, and what considerations play a role in this?

With uncertainty about the best approach and the pressure to keep operations running, CubeCold called in Moerdijk QING to investigate external energy sources that could be used quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively. In this case, an aggregate proved to be the best temporary solution.

Holistic approach to optimal reception for peak energy demand

QING calculated for CubeCold Moerdijk which external energy source it has most advantageous was to meet peak energy demand when grid capacity is insufficient and solar power is not sufficient.

The following steps were taken care of by QING:

  1. Inventory of the entire market: which generators exist and which are the most lucrative?
  2. What are the costs of the various generators and how much CO2 do they emit?
  3. Complex analysis of CubeCold's complete cooling system and what role generators can play in this.
  4. Simulation based on this analysis to show how the generators would actually behave in the event of a peak demand from the grid. Also in combination with existing energy sources such as grid and solar power.
  5. Various tactics of the simulations were measured to minimize fuel consumption.
  6. Business cases selected from the most lucrative generators, sold for rent or purchase with quotes from suppliers.
  7. Selecting the right supplier.
